3. Holes
Holes is a novel written by Louis Sachar and published in 1998. This young adult fiction novel tells the story of a young boy wrongfully accused of a crime, and has to spend his punishment at a juvenile detention correctional facility digging holes. The novel won the 1999 U.S. National Book Award for Young People's Literature and the 1999 Newbery Medal. Walt Disney Pictures released a film adaptation in 2003, directed by Andrew Davis. It is a fun adventure for both children and adults. It follows the novel really well, mainly because Sachar also wrote the screenplay. Though the film is targeted for young adults, it has a maturity that will keep anyone intrigued throughout the whole film.
