5) Sonic the Hedgehog (1993)
The parade's first video game mascot balloon lost control when it hit wind and toppled into a lamp post in Columbus Circle. An off-duty police officer was hit by the falling lamp post and received several minor injuries, including a broken shoulder. Rex the Dinosaur also caught a gust of wind and blew into a light post this year, although he didn't take anyone down with him.
