J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot posts behind-the-scenes ‘Star Wars’ photo with R2-D2

We still have no idea who any of the human stars for Star Wars: Episode VII, but we do know that at least one plucky astromech droid may return: R2-D2. One-half of the most famous pair of droids in film history appears in a new behind-the-scenes image posted on the Bad Robot Twitter account.

Bad Robot is director J.J. Abrams’ production banner and is co-producing the film with Disney’s Lucasfilm. In the image, Abrams and his team are seen with Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy and the blue droid. “Hi from the workshop! #StarWarsVII,” the caption reads.

Sure, it doesn’t really confirm if R2-D2 is going to be in Episode VII, but the droid has appeared in every Star Wars film so far. Disney has already sacrificed the traditional May release date for the film... they couldn’t possibly leave out R2?

Episode VII will be the first Star Wars film not released in May. Last week, the studio said it will be out on Dec. 18, 2015. Disney CEO Bob Iger explained that the extra time is needed for the team to give fans the best movie. After all, it was only recently that Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan took over the script from Michael Arndt.
