The Princess Bride is one of the most beloved movies of all time. Now, The Princess Bride is coming to the stage.
According to CBS News Disney Theatrical Productions are planning to adapt the novel and screenplay for the stage.
The Hollywood Reporter added that the deal was driven by Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn. Horn was involved with the screen version during his time at Castle Rock.
The Princess Bride novel was written back in 1973 and was adapted for film back in 1987. The film adaptation was directed by Rob Reiner and starred Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, Christopher Guest, Fred Savage, Wallace Shawn, Billy Crystal, Mandy Patinkin and Carol Kane.
No timetable for the project has yet to be announced. No decision has been announced regarding if the project would be a musical or a play.
Disney has a history of making movies into stage spectaculars. The Lion King, recently made over $1 billion on Broadway. Disney also plans on opening its latest musical Aladdin based off the film in March of next year.
