Dwight Howard opened his first season with the Houston Rockets with 26 rebounds, tying his career high in a 96-83 win over the Bobcats.
Howard also had 17 points behind James Harden's team-high 21. Harden praised Howard for his play in the season opener after the game.
“Amazing,” said Harden. “Running the floor, obviously rebounding the basketball, taking all of my rebounds … finishing the basketball. Doing what he does. He’s a game-changer.”
ESPN reports that this was Howard's 63rd game recording 20 or more rebounds. He had his sights set on more than that in this game though.
"I really was trying to get 30," he said. "I said coming in tonight that I wanted to get 30 rebounds. I was upset that I didn't do it, but I'll try the next game."
It wasn't as smooth a game as it seems for the Rockets. They had some trouble moving the ball around and some guys suffered minor injuries, according to Houston Chronicle. Harden was suffering with back issues, Jeremy Lin also went to the locker room with problems, and Pat Beverly suffered a rib injury that left him listed as day to day.
