Rob Lowe is leaving Parks and Recreation, but the actor might still be staying at NBC. The network reportedly put in a production commitment for a new project called The Pro starring Lowe as a tennis player.
Sitcom veterans Pete Huyck and Alex Gregory (Fraiser, The Larry Sanders Show) are writing the single-camera format comedy, reports Deadline, which first reported the news. The duo will also be the showrunners, with Todd Holland directing.
The Pro will have Lowe playing “Big Ben” Bertrahm, a former tennis doubles champion whose career torpedoed and because of bad investment,s he’s had to take a job at a tennis and golf club. While there, he tries to make friends among America’s 1 percent.
The project is being developed under Lowe’s development deal with NBC, which they agreed to when he made his departure from Parks and Rec official. It will be a co-production between ABC Studios and Universal TV.
Lowe’s departure from Parks and Rec was first reported in July and later confirmed by the show’s producers. Rashida Jones and Lowe will be leaving the show in the 13th episode of the current season.
Fans of Lowe will also see the actor in National Geographic’s Killing Kennedy next month.
