Betrayal with husband and wife Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz is still in previews at the Barrymore Theater, but it is already a big hit, grossing over $1 million during its first seven performances.
The Associated Press reports that the Broadway League released statistics on Monday, showing that Betrayal has already grossed $1,100,818, setting the Barrymore Theater’s record for a highest grossing week. The 2012 revival of Death of a Salesman previously held the record when it grossed $1,066,582 in a week.
Betrayal was written by Harold Pinter and does not officially open until Oct. 27. It is directed by Mike Nichols and produced by Scott Rudin, who also produced that successful Death of a Salesman revival.
Craig and Weisz agreed to do Betrayal in April. Seeing as the two are busy Hollywood stars, the production will only run 14 weeks, closing on Jan. 5.
The Broadway League said that the 28 shows on Broadway grossed a combined $21,422,654 last week. According to Bloomberg, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark showed its first gain in two months, with grosses climbing 5 percent over the previous week to $655,000.
Craig is the current James Bond and is working on the franchise’s 24th film after the successful Skyfall. Weisz was last seen in Oz The Great and Powerful.
