A state report claims that prison officials falsified prison logs for Ariel Castro, a convicted kidnapper and rapist.
Castro was found dead in his prison cell on Sept. 3. He was found hanging, using a bed sheet as a rope.
Guards were supposed to be checking in on Castro, who was in an isolated prison cell at the Correctional Reception Center in Orient, Ohio, every 30 minutes. But according to the Plain Dealer, a report released by the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction showed that several rounds were not made during the six-hour period before Castro was found dead.
The report showed that officials falsified logs, between 3 p.m. and the time that Castro was found dead at 9:18 p.m. that day.
According to the Associated Press, the report claims that Castro was not told to watch a suicide prevention video when he arrived at the prison.
The report also said that Castro was so paranoid about his food being tampered with that he often flushed it down his toilet. He also wrote that he was being harassed by guards and other inmates.
Castro was sentenced to life in prison plus 1,000 years in August. He had imprisoned and tortured three women, who were rescued in May.
