A third writer has been hired to work on the script for Universal and Focus Features’ Fifty Shades of Grey film adaptation and this one has some action experience. Mark Bomback, who recently wrote Fox’s The Wolverine, has been hired to polish the script.
Bomback is joining Kelly Marcel (Saving Mr. Banks), who wrote the initial screenplay, and Patrick Marber (Notes on a Scandal, Closer), who was hired earlier this month.
According to TheWrap, which first reported the news, Bomback has worked with Universal before, but mostly on action films. He contributed to the Fast & Furious films and is also currently working on the studio’s new Dracula film.
Bomback’s other credits include Unstoppable, Live Free Or Die Hard and the upcoming Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Clearly, Universal is hoping to get some action into the Fifty Shades script.
Fifty Shades is based on the erotic novel by E.L. James and the studio is hoping to release the film in August 2014. However, production will not start until December, now that Jamie Dornan is on board to play Christian Grey. Dakota Johnson is also starring as Anastasia Steele.
It is being directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson.
