Fifty Shades of Grey author, E.L. James officially announced on Twitter that Dakota Johnson has been selected to play Anastasia Steele and Charlie Hunnam will play Christian Grey.
James tweeted on Monday that Johnson was selected as the leads for the movie, The Telegraph reports. The writer then tweeted shortly afterward Hunnam was selected as Christian.
The 23-year-old actress is the daughter of Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson. She has appeared in such films as Crazy in Alabama with her mother, The Five Year Engagement and The Social Network.
British actor, Hunnam recently starred in the summer blockbuster Pacific Rim and plays Jax in the hit FX show Sons of Anarchy.
There were plenty of rumors and speculation over who would end up being cast in the film adaptation of the bestselling novel, with many different names mentioned such as Emma Watson and Armie Hammer, though neither actually seemed interested in the part, according to Entertainment Weekly reports.
Harry Potter star, Watson tweeted in response to rumors, “who here actually things I would do 50 Shades of Grey as a movie? Like really. For real. In real life.”
Lone Ranger actor, Hammer called the book “mommy porn” and he told his agent he wasn’t interested. “I mean, come on – it’s just mommy porn. I’m not going to sit on top of the laundry machine in spin cycle reading about putting a ball gag in someone’s mouth,” he told Playboy.
I am delighted to let you know that the lovely Dakota Johnson has agreed to be our Anastasia in the film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey.
