Sherlock Holmes: The 2009 crime adventure introduced moviegoers to Downey’s portrayal of the famous detective Sherlock Holmes and his partnership with Dr. John Watson, played wonderfully by Jude Law. The plot had Downey’s Holmes and Law’s Watson engaging in a battle of wits with a dark nemesis, Lord Blackwood, played by the wonderfully creepy Mark Strong. Downey’s depiction of Holmes was spot on as he even showed his vulnerable side with Rachel McAdams’ Irene Adler, the only woman Holmes ever loved and who could outwit him at the same time. Downey’s witty banter with both Law and McAdams while trying to unravel Blackwood’s sinister plan melded comedy and determination beautifully.
