1. Only You: This 1994 romantic comedy inspired me to go to Italy back in 1999 and to go to all of the spots Downey and co-star Marisa Tomei visited in the film. Tomei played Faith, a teacher who believed she was destined to meet and fall in love with a man named Damon Bradley, a name she got off a Ouija board and a fortune teller when she was young. Alas, all grown up, she hasn’t found him and was about to marry someone else when fate intervened so she dropped everything and trekked to Italy, with best friend Bonnie Hunt in tow, to find this man she believed she was destined to be with. Enter Downey’s character, Peter Wright, who falls in love with Faith immediately and must convince her that they are meant to be. Downey’s sweet romantic aura shined through as each look he gave Tomei throughout the film made me totally believe he loved her body and soul. Against the backdrop of breathtaking Rome and various other cities in Italy, Downey blended romance with humor and even some physical comedy. This movie made me believe that true love is indeed possible and Downey’s performance as a man who would do anything for love captured my heart!
