7. Be Kind Rewind
This 2008 dramedy had Black teaming with rapper/actor Mos Def. When Black’s character accidentally erased all of the VHS rental tapes at the video store where Mos Def’s character worked, the pair decided to recreate each film themselves to fool customers and keep Mos Def’s boss, played by Danny Glover, from learning the truth. It was insanity run amok as the duo attempted to recreate iconic movies like Ghostbusters. Critics enjoyed the film overall and it appeared at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival. The element of drama, new to Black, gave the film a heartwarming touch and let his fans see a different side to Black.
