When Mancini finds herself desperate for cash, Miller offers to help her out in exchange for her posing as his girlfriend to make him “cool.” As the outcast gains the friends and credit he desires with the in-crowd, Mancini gains real feelings back for Miller, which he is eventually too cool to recognize.
