Oprah Winfrey is speaking out about the possibility that Lindsay Lohan’s attempt at sobriety could be the real deal this time, saying she thinks Lohan has accepted she needs to leave the past behind.

Winfrey, who has interviewed Lohan for Oprah’s Next Chapter and will act as a mentor to her during an eight-part docu-series on OWN, told Today’s Al Roker that she’s optimistic about her recovery.
“All I can say about it is this: I believe that she believes that she is ready to move forward in her life," she said, Us Weekly reports. "And we'll see."

She added, "I'm anxious to see whether or not this young woman, who is a really, really fine actress, will be able to allow us into her life and let us see the trajectory of trying to put the pieces back together.”

Winfrey said she’s “proud” of Lohan for deciding to cancel her Europe trip, explaining on Good Morning America she did talk to her about the temptations.
"I said to her, 'Look, I have some concerns 'cause I hear you're going to Europe,” she said. “And I just came from Europe, and Europe is the place to go when you want to feel really good and relax. It's very hard to go to Capri and not have a Bellini.”

"I was saying, if I were you I would think about it. So she texted me and said, 'Yes, I will think about it. But, look, I've already paid for it.' And then I just heard this morning she's decided not to go," adding, "Isn't that good, that she's decided to stay here and work on herself? I'm so proud of her for that decision."
