Matt Damon has seen his friend Ben Affleck break into directing and he’s hoping to do the same. The Elysium star is reportedly in talks to finally make his directorial debut. He has also joined Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar.
First, let’s look at his Interstellar role. The news was first reported by The Playlist, whose source claims that Damon will only have a small role in Nolan’s sci-fi epic. He’ll only be on set in Iceland for two weeks out of the film’s scheduled four-month shoot.
Interstellar already features a star-studded cast, highlighted by Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain. The Warner Bros./Paramount co-production is slated for release in November 2014.
The Playlist also reported that Damon is in talks to helm The Foreigner. The Hollywood Reporter also confirmed that news.
Foreigner will be written by Chris Terrio, who won an Oscar for writing Affleck’s Argo. Like Argo, Foreigner will also be based on an article. Terrio is David Grann’s New Yorker story “A Murder Foretold,” about a man killed in Guatemala. He leaves evidence that links the president and first lady to his death.
Steve Zaillian and Garrett Basch's Film Rites will produce with Indian Paintbrush's Steven Rales. While Indian Paintbrush has a first-look deal at Paramount, Foreigner’s not set up there just yet, notes THR.
Damon was supposed to make his directing debut with Promised Land, but he handed the reins over to Gus Van Sant so he could concentrate on final work on Elysium.
