This year’s Emmys are still over a month away, but there’s already some questions surrounding the scheduling of the 2014 ceremony. It’s NBC’s turn to host the show next year and the network is reportedly planning on moving it to August so it doesn’t interfere with football.
The Hollywood Reporter is reporting this morning that 66th Primetime Emmys will likely be rescheduled for August so that it doesn’t impede NBC’s Sunday Night Football, since the NFL season starts in September. A source for THR says that the Television Academy is looking at Aug. 26, but the academy would not confirm that yet.
The Emmys typically take place in September and the four networks rotate the chance to host it. The 2013 ceremony will be hosted by CBS and is scheduled for Sept. 22. How I Met Your Mother’s Neil Patrick Harris is hosting and CBS is using the Emmys to launch its Fall 2012 season.
NBC’s push to get the Emmys rescheduled for August shouldn’t be a surprise. While the ceremony has been in September for every year since 2002, an exception has been made when NBC is up to the plate. The network has aired the ceremony in August in each of its last two turns, in 2006 and 2010, both to make sure it didn’t step on SNF.
This year’s Emmy nominations were announced last month and history was made when Netflix’s House of Cards, Hemlock Grove and Arrested Development all scored nominations.
