1. “Step by Step”
By and large, the song I tormented my parents with the most! The title track off their 1990 album of the same name, it had all the elements of a great pop song. The boys sing about how step by step, they fell in love with their girl and I can remember the countless hours I’d spend wishing I was that girl! The oh so memorable lyrics include, “Step by step ooh baby/Gonna get to you girl/Step by step ooh baby/Really want you in my world/ Step/Hey girl, in your eyes/I see a picture of me all the time/Step/And girl, in your smile/You got to know that you drive me wild/Step by step/Ooh baby, you're always on my mind/Step by step/Ooh girl, I really think it's just a matter of time… [Danny] Step one, we can have lots of fun/ [Donnie] Step two, there's so much we can do/ [Jordan] Step three, it's just you for me/ [Joey] Step four, I can give you more/ [Jonathan] Step five, don't you know that the time has arrived.” That last part with each guy singing their own line was the part of the song I’d rewind over and over. A great dance song with an infectious beat, I confess to having this on my MP3, jamming to it and remembering those innocent girlhood fantasies of the boys. Well, now in my early 30s, you can bet I called up those thoughts in my seat at the Verizon Center in D.C., as I’m sure legions of other loyal NKOTB fans my age did as well!
