Oscar winning actress and singer Rita Moreno will receive the Screen Actors Guild’s Lifetime Achievement award. The honor is just the latest for Moreno, one of the few entertainers who have an EGOT.

“I am simply delighted that Rita Moreno is the 50th recipient of our SAG Life Achievement Award – the most prestigious honor we bestow,” Ken Howard, SAG-AFTRA Co-President said in today’s announcement. “She is an extraordinarily versatile, talented and generous actor whose career is notable for its courageous choices and for the breadth, depth and quality of her many demanding and commanding roles. She is a magnificent actor, and I am honored to join all SAG-AFTRA members in recognizing the incomparable Rita Moreno.”

Roberta Reardon, SAG-AFTRA Co-President added that “No one is more deserving of this honor than the fabulous and accomplished Rita Moreno, an iconic talent whose excellent work includes hit movies, highly-rated television series, landmark public television programs and award-winning recordings. She is emblematic of the broad reach and diverse coverage of our new, merged union.”

Moreno is one of only 11 people in the entertainment world to have an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony to her name and is the only Hispanic in that prestigious group. She is best known for her iconic performance as Anita in West Side Story, which earned her an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. She won her Grammy for her contribution to 1972’s The Electric Company Album, her Tony for The Ritz in 1975 and her Emmy in 1977 for her guest appearance on The Muppet show. She won another Emmy in 1978 for The Rockford Files.

Moreno earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1998 and received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President George W. Bush in 2004. In 2010, President Barack Obama presented her with The National Medal of Arts.

Renewed interest in her work was sparked by her autobiography, Rita Moreno: A Memoir, which was released in March.

The SAG Awards are scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014. TBS and TNT will air it live.
