Johnny Depp’s agents are working quickly to make sure that audiences forget about how bad The Lone Ranger did and are getting their client a big gig that will hopefully land him another hit. Depp is reportedly close to signing on for Disney’s Alice In Wonderland 2.
Deadline reported Friday that Depp is in the final stages of signing on for the sequel to Tim Burton’s 2010 worldwide smash. The original film, which started Disney on a kick to turn its animated classics into live action extravaganzas, grossed $1 billion worldwide and won Oscars for its art direction and costumes. Depp starred as the Mad Hatter.
It seemed obvious that we would hear about Depp signing on for the project soon, since in May, it was confirmed that Disney is talking with Muppets director James Bobin about having him replace Burton in the director’s chair. Linda Woolverton was hired to work on the script.
Depp has been a busy actor lately, working on Transcendence and later dropping out of the Whitey Bulger pic Black Mass. He’s also going to be working on Pirates of the Caribbean 5 and Into The Woods, both for Disney. And last but not least, he also is in talks for Mordecai.
