Top 10: Father/Daughter & Father/Son relationships in media

8. Robby Ray (Billy Ray Cyrus) and Miley Stewart (Miley Cyrus) in Hannah Montana

There may have been a disadvantage on this Disney show because Billy Ray Cyrus was actually Miley Cyrus’s father, so maybe it wasn’t hard to play a doting father to his young daughter on the show. But whether that helped or not, or whether he’s a good father in real life didn’t matter, because the character of Robby Ray Stewart was an amazing father to his teenaged superstar of a daughter. Not only did he move his family to California from Tennessee so she could pursue her music dream, he served as her manager to make sure she kept her image clean in the press, and helped her when she needed to keep her identity secret. But most importantly, he also helped his daughter as she dealt with the struggles of a regular teen--when Miley wasn’t Hannah Montana the superstar, she was plain old Miley Stewart, middle and high school student in California. Yes he supported his daughter’s career, but the most important thing a father can do for his daughter is be there for her day-to-day needs. And that’s exactly what he did. It was also something that carried over into the movie version of the TV show, Hannah Montana the Movie.
