Rapper Lil Wayne is doing damage control after he was seen singing and dancing on the American Flag in a clip for his newest music video, “God Bless Amerika.”
Wayne’s disrespect for the flag stirred outrage over the weekend after he was seen singing in front of a giant flag, which drops to the ground revealing a group of people behind it as he sings, “My country 'tis of thee / Sweet land of kill 'em all and let 'em die / God bless Amerika / This ole' godless Amerika."
Since the videos release, Weezy has received a significant amount of backlash for both the lyrics and his blatant disregard for the flag.
Now, the 30-year-old artist has taken to Twitter to state that he didn’t “step on the flag on purpose.”
“I didn't step on the flag on purpose! It's a scene in a video where the flag drops behind me and after it drop it's just there as I perform,” he tweeted Tuesday morning.
