Lauryn Hill pays tax debt on eve of sentencing

Lauryn Hill has paid off her $900,000 tax debt just hours before her scheduled court date on Monday.

According to Reuters, Hills attorney made an announcement Sunday noting that his client has paid off the debt she owed after failing to pay taxes for the calendar years 2005,2006 and 2007.

Reuters notes that the former Fugees singer was responsible for $504,000 in federal back taxes, owing roughly around $900,000. Nathan Hockman, Hill’s attorney, released a statement following his client paying off her debt.“Ms Hill has not only now fully paid prior to sentencing her taxes, which are part of her criminal restitution, but she has additionally fully paid her federal and state personal taxes for the entire period under examination through 2009."

Hill claimed that threats against her family kept her from paying her taxes, although she never provided details into the alleged threats.

On Friday, the “Killing Me Softly” singer released a new track, “Neurotic Society,” which is currently available on iTunes.
