John Grisham is writing a sequel to A Time To Kill, his first novel. The book, titled Sycamore Row, will feature the original novel’s main character, Jake Brigance.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Knopf Doubleday announced the new book on Wednesday. The publisher said that it will feature “intrigue, suspense and plot twists” in the typical Grisham style.
Entertainment Weekly reports that Sycamore Row will hit book shelves on Oct. 11.
A Time To Kill was a modest seller when it was first released in 1989. But when Grisham published The Firm and went on to become one of the best selling authors in the world, A Time To Kill became a million-seller. It was turned into a film in 1996 directed by Joel Schumacher with Matthew McConaughey and Sandra Bullock. It made $108 million domestically.
In the original story, Jake Brigance defends a man accused of murder. McConaughey played Jack, with Samuel L. Jackson as the man he defends. It was also turned into a stage play.
Hollywood has turned ten Grisham novels into films, grossing a combined $664 million.
