Since 2009, Hollywood has been trying to get Seth Grahame-Smith’s Pride and Prejudice and Zombies to the big screen. After the adaptation of his Abraham Lincoln: Vampire hunter flopped though, most could be excused for assuming that the project was dead. But nothing ever dies in Hollywood and Mirror, Mirror actress Lily Collins has reportedly been cast in the lead role.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, new director Burr Steers and the producers - Natalie Portman, Annette Savitch, Richard Kelly and Sean McKittrick - have cast Collins to star in the project.
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies got its start in Hollywood back in 2009 when it was announced that Portman would produce and star in the film. It was set up at Lionsgate.
Then in 2010, Portman and director David O. Russell left the project. Other directors considered included Mike White and Craig Gillespie, while actresses like Emma Stone, Scarlett Johansson, Mia Wasikowska and Anne Hathaway were interested.
However, it looks like the project, which Panorama is now financing, is going in a very different direction. The new director, Steers, previously worked on films with Zac Efron, including 17 Again and Charlie St. Cloud. Collins is a star on the rise and will next be seen in Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.
