The Broadway revival of Jekyll & Hyde is closing on Broadway earlier than planned. The show will give its final performance on Sunday at the Marquis Theatre.
Jekyll & Hyde was written by Frank Wildhorn and Leslie Bricusse is based on the classic Robert Louis Stevenson story, notes TheaterMania. The production had a 25-week national tour before reaching New York. It starred Constantine Maroulis as the title characters, Deborah Cox as Lucy Harris and Teal Wicks as Emma. Jeff Calhoun (Newsies) directed.
Playbill reports that the production did not receive any Tony nominations this week. It had 15 preview performances and will end with 30 regular performances. Opening night was April 18.
The original production of Jekyll & Hyde opened on Broadway in 1997 and earned four Tony nominations. That production ran until 2001. The story features a man who has a second personality.
Maroulis is a former American Idol finalist and gained fame for starring in Rock of Ages, which earned him a Best Actor Tony nominations.
