4 – Coach Carter
Granted, he does admit he is not an institutional teacher per se, however, this movie portrays an inspiring performance by Samuel L. Jackson as the new head coach of the Richmond County High School basketball team, and in a large way he is their teacher and mentor. This film tells the story of a bold, strong-willed business owner who returns to his high school alma mater to change the culture and education system through the use of the students’ and community’s appreciation for basketball by becoming the new high school basketball coach. In the below clip from the film, he immediately weeds out the disrespectful troublemaker in the group (who - spoiler alert - is seen again later in the film in a different light). As a former graduate of the high school, he is hardcore to the bone. Once again, Jackson delivers an intense, iron-fist performance in this inspiring 2005 feature film.
