This touching moment comes from the 2005 Broadway musical Little Women. This number highlights the moment after Beth, a peacemaker who always sees the good in people, contracts scarlet fever and goes back home to Concord. She is singing this song to Jo, her close friend whom the story revolves around. This song underlines the close sisterly love they have for one another, and though Jo tells her that Beth will be alright and will get back to good health, Beth sings to her that “some things are meant to be” and “some things will never die.” She also sings “all my life, I lived for loving you, let me go now.” It’s a heartbreaking moment for those who believe the power of love will bind people together forever, even “beyond the break of day,” and that conquers the fear of death and separation, giving people the power to continue.
