Actor Ewan McGregor and director Alexander Payne were among those recently selected to be members of the Cannes Film Festival jury. Others selected were actress Diane Kruger, director Andrea Arnold and fashion designer Jean-Paul Gaultier. They will judge Cannes’ main lineup, including Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom, David Cronenberg's Cosmopolis and Michael Haneke's Amour. Director Nanni Moretti will be president of the jury. The jurors will award one film the prestigious Palme d’Or. Last year, that honor went to Terrence Malick’s film The Tree of Life. Moretti ‘s film The Son’s Room won the award in 2001. Jurors at last year’s festival include Jude Law, Robert De Niro and Uma Thurman. The 65th Cannes Film Festival, which honors both art-house filmmakers and more marquee Hollywood names, is scheduled from May 16 through May 27 in southern France. Kingdom will open the festival. It is set in 1960s New England and stars Bruce Willis and Bill Murray. Last year’s festival ended on a note of controversy when director Lars Von Trier, whose film Melancholia was playing at the festival, said that he sympathized with Hitler and even called himself a Nazi. The director was subsequently banned from the festival, although his film was allowed to remain in competition.
