Zorro might be drawing his famous “Z” with a sword on the big screen again, but not in the world we are familiar with. Don Diego de la Vega’s story will be transported to a post-apocalyptic setting. Zorro, for those who aren’t familiar, is a Robin Hood-type character who goes around fighting corrupt officials in Spanish-controlled California during the 1800s. The character has inspired countless similar vigilantes and has a long history in the movies, dating back to Douglas Fairbanks’ 1920 film The Mark of Zorro. However, it’s been a decade since audiences last saw Zorro. Antonio Banderas starred in 1998’s The Mask of Zorro and the 2005 sequel The Legend of Zorro. This could change soon. The long-gestating Zorro Reborn project has been reborn itself, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Lantica Media and Sobini Films are are co-producing the new film and searching for a filmmaker to make it. Lantica confirmed the report by posting it on Facebook. Zorro Reborn would have Don Diego fighting corruption in a post-apocalyptic world. Of course, if there was an apocalypse that wiped out most of the population, how many corrupt officials could there be to fight? Would money still be valuable after an apocalypse? Will there still be paper for Zorro to slash a “Z” through? These are the important questions Lantica and Sobini will have to answer.
