Jackie Zeman Interview

Jackie Zeman: Oh, it was such a blessing when it came along. I’ve reached a point in my life where I’m over 50 and four and a half years ago I got divorced so my life changed on a dime. So, here I am, getting a divorce from the father of my children, who I’ve been married to for 20 years. We sold our home, they took me off contract at GH, so I was recurring at that time and as you know not recurring very much. So, all of a sudden, I’m moving to a new house with my girls. My girls are now in college so I’ve become an empty nester. I’m alone for the first time in 20 years. So, I’m dating for the first time, over 50. Oh my God! I looked at the phone and said, ‘Okay God, bring it on!’ *laughs* One thing I’ve learned is that the true key to life is that changes come, whether we’re ready for them or not. You’ve got your choices, you can hang on by your fingernails, try to hang onto your security, try to hang onto your youth, try to hang onto all of the things that make you feel comfortable but eventually you have to accept what really is. You can choose to reinvent yourself. So, I said, ‘Okay, what am I going to do?’ It was like I went from the days of being a mom, being a successful actress and having a lot of money to stepping over the line of over 50 and going, ‘What’s next?’ I gotta reinvent my life. I gotta figure it out. Then, the Zestra people called me. I was familiar with Zestra, I had just tried it a couple of times. So, they called me and asked if I’d be interested in being their national spokesperson and I asked. ‘What would that mean?’ They told me that they wanted to do a commercial to get the product out there and they wanted me to go out and talk to women about life after 50, what happens, how you change emotionally and sexually, the lifestyle changes, what its been like for you and talk about the product because there’s a definite match, I got so excited because this is an opportunity because I love people, with all the personal appearances. The people I meet, the fans of the show. I meet them 20 or 30 times, I’ll be somewhere and they’ll come see me again and say, ‘Here’s a picture from the last time we saw you’ or ‘I just had a baby and I named her Bobbie.’ I mean, I have a relationship with these people. We have mutual memories. So, it was a perfect situation for me to talk about Zestra. What I learned when I was dating, I was 35 when I got married so I had a different take, when you’re going through your child bearing years and thinking about starting a family, it’s a different thing. Then, all of a sudden, you’re dating and you’re over 40 or over 50 and you realize it’s a different thing. I don’t date men who are younger than me. I date men who are older or who are the same age as me. Women need a lot of help these days. Men are taking Viagra and Cialis. They’re taking a lot of things to enhance their sexual abilities and what I’m hearing from a lot of women is that, ‘We’re under pressure to keep up.’ A lot of women, as we age, we think more about intimacy, partnership, cuddling, loving someone, being provided for, all of those things. And you say, ‘Wait a minute. I want great sex too. I want to feel my heart go pitter-pat.’ So, Zestra gives you the solution to that. You know now that I’m getting older, I feel younger because of Zestra. So, I LOVE being a spokeswoman for this product.

And the feedback I’m getting from other women is all positive. I mean it’s not a pill. It doesn’t need a prescription. It’s botanical oils, which are very safe. I’ve had men come up to me and ask me for samples for their wives and I LOVE IT! *laughs* It’s so exciting because it means that men are open to it too and I think that’s an important point because we did an interview for WPIX where we actually went out on the street and we interviewed people. We had a questionnaire and we walked around asking people, ‘Do you know about Zestra?’ And I always thought that women were more open to communicating their emotions and their feelings and men were a little more closed off. But, what I found is when it comes to sex and romance, the men are just as open as the women. I mean, he wants to keep it good. He wants to keep it hot with his woman. *laughs* He’s not shy about saying what he wants, I mean whatever it takes. *laughs* And I love that!

Sari N. Kent: That’s fabulous! Your publicist, Ms. Italiano, sent me a press release that mentioned that you will be featured at “Beauty Bash,” which is a two-day event at New York City’s Metropolitan Pavilion sponsored by FabOverFifty, a premiere online destination for successful and stylish women over 50. Can you tell a little more about that?

Jackie Zeman: We actually did that a few weeks ago and it was fabulous. It was a group of women. It was like a woman’s conference or an expo. There were a lot of products there that were of interest to women and we had a booth there for Zestra. It was a wonderful opportunity because for like the whole time, I got to talk to women. They would come over, I’d tell them about Zestra, they’d tell me what they’re doing and it was really interesting because it was right in the middle of New York and I’m looking around the room and these gals were dressed to the hills with their New York outfits on and their high heels and the day I was there it was pouring rain. I expected everyone to be dressed in sweatsuits but the women were dolled up! The event was geared toward everyone but most of the women were not young girls. Women in their late 20s all the way up to the 70s but a lot of women were in their 40s. It was a great because women need to stick together. We have to share our experiences and what’s in our hearts and share what we’ve learned. Share the info, that’s the connection.

Sari N. Kent: I agree. The idea of all women being connected and women power has to be utilized and believed in. I sure believe in it.

Jackie Zeman: Well, I’m so glad to hear that.

Sari N. Kent: You also appear frequently on HSN, the Home Shopping Network, showcasing your own line of signature jewelry. Will that continue to do that even with your new role as Zestra’s national spokesperson?
