Gil Scott-Heron, often referred to as “the Godfather of Rap,” died Friday at a hospital in Manhattan at 62 years old. Scott-Heron was admitted to the hospital after a trip to Europe when he fell ill, reported NewYorktimes.com. His British producer, Jamie Byng, announced his death via a Twitter message on Friday night that said, “Just heard the very sad news that my dear friend and one of the most inspiring people I've ever met, the great Gil Scott-Heron, died today." TheHollywoodReporter.com said many stars gave a shout out to the inspirational figure on Twitter, including Eminem, Michael Moore and Sarah Silverman. Gil-Scott Heron is most well known for his ‘70s song, “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised.” Tupac Shakur, Common and Kanye West have featured the song in samples of their own music.
