Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe will receive an award for his charity work for anti-suicide organization Trevor Project. The British star will be awarded the Hero Award in June for his efforts within The Trevor Project, which works toward suicide prevention for gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered youths. Other past recipients of the award include Vanessa Williams, Nathan Lane, and screenwriter Dustin Lance Black; who were all seen as inspirational figures for sexual minority groups. Radcliffe is currently acting in the Broadway play "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" and has received immense accolades of positive feedback by the audiences for his work with the Trevor Project. He has been involved with the organization since 2009, actively making public speeches to the organization. "It's fantastic..The fact that they think of what I've done by promoting awareness of the Trevor Project itself and the issues that it works to promote and help is a great honor,” Radcliffe told The Associated Press The Trevor Project sprang from 1994 Oscar award-winning short film Trevor, depicting a boy’s suicide attempt after his gay sexuality is revealed to his friends. The film was then shown on HBO in 1998, drawing public interest and attention to the issue. The Hollywood Reporter reports that Daniel is honored to be awarded such a noble award and preaches sexual orientation tolerance.
