'Castle' Recap: 'Murder Most Fowl'

When the team goes to the motel to retrieve Dean, they find him there alone with his gun, which does not match the murder weapon. Tyler is nowhere to be found. He tells the team he is just doing what the kidnappers told him to do. He says he doesn’t know who the kidnappers are but if he had sought help from the police the kidnappers would kill his son.

Dean tells Team Castkett that he went to pick up Tyler after soccer practice but when his son wasn’t in their meeting place, he figured Tyler walked home. When Dean got back to his place he found a cell phone on his doorstep with a text on it saying that they had his son and that the kidnappers would give him instructions on what to do to get his son back. Ryan tells Montgomery that the text messages are coming from the internet not another phone and are untraceable. Castle and Beckett convince Dean to work with them.

Mirielle and Dean have a confrontation. Mongomery breaks it up and tells them that the abduction was planned, meaning the kidnapper knew Tyler’s schedule. The Team receives a text message from the kidnappers. It is video proof Tyler is alive. In the video, Tyler tells his dad to do what the kidnappers say and not to forget to feed Ace. Neither Tyler’s mother nor his father knows who Ace is. Castle says Tyler is sending them a message.

Another text message follows the video. It has the address of the building where Dean works and tells him to be there in 30 minutes. Dean says that it is an office building and that the reason the kidnappers need him is because he has access to all of the restricted floors.

Beckett tells the Captain that the building owner is sending them the building plans. Montgomery says that Esposito, Ryan and he are going to take Dean to the building. Beckett says that’s a bad idea but Castle says there is no way they are going to be able to keep Dean from that building because his son is involved. Montgomery tells Beckett to go over the video for clues.

Castle figures out that there were 8 minutes between the time the video was made and when it was sent. Beckett says that maybe there wasn’t a signal where the kidnappers were. Castle thinks that they are underground and figures out that Ace is not a name but the A,C,E lines of the subway. Beckett tells him the end of all those lines are right below the building that Dean works at and that’s where they think the kidnappers are holding the boy.

Team Castkett goes to the subway station to try and figure out where in the station the boy is. Dean gets another text message from the kidnappers telling him to go to the 37th floor. Dean tells them that nothing special is on that floor; it’s vacant. Esposito tries to get a hold of Beckett but she is already in the subway and has no signal. Dean goes into the building and gets on the elevator. He goes up a floor when the doors open and two men with guns get on with him. They tell him to go to the 39th floor. Ryan finds out that a financial firm is on that floor. Montgomery says that the kidnappers let Dean see their faces so they are not planning on letting him live.

In the subway, Beckett and Castle are having no luck finding the boy until Castle sees a light coming from under a door. Castle uses his phone to snap a picture. They see that a man with a gun is guarding the boy. Beckett can’t bust in without endangering the kid. The man is also holding a flashlight. Castle says if they cut the power Beckett will be able to see him without the guard seeing her. They see one of Leonard’s power boxes nearby. Castle cuts the power and Beckett busts in shots are fired.

Back in the building, the kidnappers are getting back on the elevator with their take. They tell Dean to take them to the subway floor. But the elevator stops in the lobby where a swarm of Policemen have the elevator surrounded. Dean asks about his son.

At the precinct, Dean is reunited with Tyler. The team figures out that the kidnappers were ex-Wall Street guys who lost everything when the economy collapsed. They needed Dean so they could get financial files that would be worth millions to them. The guard turned on the ringleader, Robert Kincaid, and told the police that he murdered Leonard and kidnapped the boy.

Castle heads back to his apartment where he finds Alexis surrounded by cheese on the floor and looking depressed. She says that Ashley is going to hate her for losing his pet. Castle tries to comfort her. Ashley shows up; Alexis tells him what happened. He is upset but not mad at her. He says no one else would have put in the effort she did to find him. They kiss; Castle respectfully looks away and seems please that his daughter has such a nice boyfriend. Suddenly Martha screams and Castle says he’s found the rat.

Next week, the truth is out there. Castle and Becket have a close encounter of the third kind while trying to solve the murder of an astrophysicist with the help of Lyle Lovett.
