Chef Bobby Flay has signed on to join NBC’s upcoming cooking competition series entitled, “America's Next Great Restaurant.” According to an article on HollywoodReporter.com, “Flay, one of five restaurant leaders the producers Magical Elves intend to cast, will be an investor, judge and mentor on the show.” Restaurant, which was originally titled United Plates of America, is slated to premiere next season. The show has its contestants conjuring up a restaurant concept and competing against one another in their quest to make their dream restaurant chain a reality. Flay was a smart and logical choice on the network’s part to include in the project considering he is the owner and executive chef of 10 restaurants: Mesa Grill in New York City, The Bahamas in Atlantis Paradise Island, Nassau and in Las Vegas; Bar American in New York City and Uncasville, Connecticut; Bobby Flay Steak in Atlantic City, New Jersey; and Bobby’s Burger Palace in Lake Grove, New York, Paramus, New Jersey, Eatontown, New Jersey and Uncasville, Connecticut. He has hosted seven shows on the Food Network and has appeared as a guest on several others. Flay also has been featured on the “Great Chefs” television series. In 2003, Flay established The Bobby Flay Scholarship, which is a full scholarship to the French Culinary Institute and is awarded annually to a student in the Long Island City Culinary Arts Program. Flay personally helps select the recipient each year.
