Jackie Chan Elected Vice Chairman of the China Film Association

'Huawei': A foreshadowing name?

Chinesepod's Carlie discusses the meaning of the name 'Huawei' in light of the recent national security concerns of the Whitehouse

Jackie Chan has been voted vice chairman of the China Film Association, reports Contactmusic.com. Chan, who is from Hong Kong, got his start in the Hong Kong film industry with movies such as Snake in the Eagle's Shadow and Drunken Master, before moving into mainstream Hollywood films, like Shanghai Noon and Rush Hour. The China Film Association is run by the Communist Party, but, with the addition of Chan and 10 other Hong Kong members, the Association hopes to connect the Hong Kong film industry with the Chinese film industry. The China Film Association also organizes China's two main movie festivals; the Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers film awards. On its Web site, the association is described as a "bridge the party (Chinese Communist Party) and the government use to unite the mass community of filmmakers."

According to GMA News, the Hong Kong film companies have recently been working with Chinese mainland productions to avoid the annual quota enforced on foreign movie imports.
