Sure Thing, The
Walter (John Cusack) is a little self-conscious about leaving his high school years behind him and entering into college. He's not quite sure he'll have what it takes to succeed. No, he's not worried about academics, but anatomy.
Alison (Daphne Zuniga) is a by-the-book, rigidly stuffy woman with no interest in Walter's immature antics. Alison's boyfriend Jason (Boyd Gaines), who goes to school in California, is a man with goals and a future in law, a perfect match for her. Just absolutely perfect!
Walter's best bud Lance (Anthony Edwards) invites Walter to California for winter break, and it's not just to catch up on old times. The plan is to get Walter laid by a hot blonde, or better yet, a sure thing (Nicollette Sheridan.) Alison too, has plans over Winter break, but Walter doesn't have the money to make such a long trip, and Alison really shouldn't use her parents' credit card on such a frivolous trip just to see her boyfriend.
It looks like Walter and Alison will have to map out a creative plan if they have any intentions of getting what they want over winter break.
The Sure Thing is simply a sweet, happy and good-natured movie where two central characters hate each other with a passion, but eventually discover that under all the shoulder shrugging, snippety remarks and heated tension they bounce off of each other; they have indeed fallen for each other.
Sure, it's a theme that has been wall-papered over and over again, but it's endearing. And with attractive humor and clean, fun acting and all the little goodies in-between, The Sure Thing adds up to a delightful and honest story of love beginning to be seen for the first time.
DVD extras include The Road to The Sure Thing, a retrospective featurette, 3 mini-featurettes on the making of The Sure Thing, audio commentary with director Rob Reiner, trivia track and hidden menu features.
Ah, when love is real, it is The Sure Thing!
