Cooler, The
Taking a gamble on love might score you the win of a lifetime!
Bernie Lootz (William H. Macy) is the man referred to in the casino as "The Cooler." Bernie's job is to take the heat off the high rollers who are having more luck than the casino would like to see. Bernie is so good at bringing other people down that his mere presence causes immediate misfortune. The only lucky thing in Bernie's life is how empty and sad it is, a perfect combination in the eyes of mobster Shelly Kaplow (Alec Baldwin), who prides himself in keeping the casino in the black, as well as in its golden hay-day appearance.
Bernie's life-long line of bad luck will soon change when he falls in love with Natalie Belisario (Maria Bello), a beautiful and vivacious cocktail waitress. This newfound joy and happy-go-lucky attitude Bernie's been spewing around the casino unfortunately is not good for business and will quickly be remedied.
The Cooler is an exceptional movie where tragic circumstances and humor are displayed among the powerful and enlightening love story.
DVD extras include director and crew commentaries, anatomy of a scene (courtesy of the Sundance Channel LLC.), storyboard comparisons, 5.1 music only track and English and Spanish subtitles.
