Pretty Woman
Sometimes love is discovered in the most unorthodox of places.
Pretty Woman is one of Hollywood's best and brightest motion picture love
stories. For obvious reasons, this is not your typical version of the
Cinderella story, but a celebration of that one thing in life most of us
truly want to say we have felt at one time or another, or continue to
look for...love.
Edward (Richard Gere) is an extremely successful businessman, who knows how to manipulate the corporate world without a flicker of insecurity, but when
it comes to firming up relationships and getting positive results from them,
he fails. After one unsuccessful marriage under his belt and an ex
girlfriend removing her things from his apartment, Edward needs to
re-prioritize on many levels.
Vivian (Julia Roberts) is a wise cracking, say what-you-feel kind of gal,
who has intelligence, style, and a personality that can out sparkle Las
Vegas. Vivian is one of a kind and has the quality of truly caring about
other people, even though she has been through some pretty rotten stuff in
her life.
Edward meets Vivian when he asks her directions on how to get to the hotel
where he's staying, and for 20 bucks it's a steal considering Edward has
no clue where he is.
Edward's a smart man and knows Vivian's current job status, but that is not
why he invites her up to his penthouse...at first anyway. Edward's a
businessman and makes Vivian a job offer. He asks her to stay with him for
the week and accompany him as needed.
Things get close for Vivian and Edward in a manner that neither of
them expect. Vivian will have a way of centering Edward and have him
looking at life in a more free and rejuvenated way. Edward will be able to
bring confidence, grace, and appreciation of art into Vivian's world, as
each begin to teach the other some mighty important lessons about life and
love.
But will they be able to handle the pressure when people start to question
why they are together and when the truth comes out will it change their
growing feelings for one another?
Julia Roberts and Richard Gere generated the kind of romantic charisma and
heat that only comes from being great talent. Not only are these two
remarkably hot on screen but very funny in so many hilarious moments.
Hector Elizondo is a scene-stealer as the Hotel Manager with some of the
most wonderful and touching moments of humility, genuineness, and humor.
He was incredibly perfect in this role.
Philip (Jason Alexander) Edward's is a smug and disgustingly perverted lawyer
and so-called friend who's more of a predator and wants nothing more than to taste the blood of his kill and bathe in the financial outcome from it.
Kit (Laura San Giacomo) is Vivian's tough, troubled and street-smart
roommate and friend who has taught Vivian the rules of the street and even
though she doesn't like to show it, has a soft spot and hopefulness about her.
A terrific soundtrack featuring Go West who had a huge hit with their song
"King of Wishful Thinking, the lovely ballad performed by Roxette". It Must
Have Been Love" and the incredible Roy Orbison singing " Oh, Pretty Woman"
are just some of the great music on the soundtrack.
Pretty Woman will give that fairy-tale almost all of us women dreamed of
when we were little girls, but very updated, and most likely not the way we
envisioned it to be. But the real message is solid, timeless and good, and
that is all right by me.
