Nick Knight
I must say that this is one of the best made for TV vampire movies and yes it is available on DVD. Nick Knight was the movie that launched the television series called Forever Knight, which also was a darn good vampire/cop show! This TV movie has a great soundtrack too! Music all throughout the movie includes INXS( love them and one of my favorites), Human League, Shirley Bassey, Steve Winwood, Richard Marx, Yello, and The Rivingtons. Haunting is Shirley Bassey singing along with Yellow, " The Rhythm Divine", as well as Yello singing the mesmerizing song "Desire".
I just go batty for Rick Springfield and he sure made for one fine vampire! But the beauty about this vampire is he wants to find a cure for this illness that festers inside of him. He wants to make right, or at least make a difference in this world he lives in, by fighting the evils of the night. He dedicates his life now as a cop out to rid the city of murderers and predators.
Nick is still filled with the nagging hunger to drink of blood; animal blood which he stores in a wine bottle to help take the edge off, though not the best thing to do. Even that stops any chance of Nick becoming human, since it fills his soul with reminders of his past.
Nick tries to fit in, he goes tanning a few times a week, but starts to panic because he feels too claustrophobic in the booth. He never gets any color he just comes out pasty white like death. He drives a 1959 black Cadillac in premo condition with lots of trunk space. ( hint) Nick is also working with Dr. Jack Brittington ( Robert Harper), his friend who's trying to help Nick turn back into a mortal.
Nick longs for a real love and a commitment and maybe one day he will have that, but for now it isn't in the cards.
The body bags of homeless victims are piling up in the city where Nick fights the hardest of crime. He is also very fond and concerned for the protection of Topper ( Craig Richard Nelson) and Jeannie ( Fran Ryan) who live on the streets. But the latest murder of a night watchman at the Museum of Natural History oddly doesn't fit the profile of the other cases in question. The curator Alyce Hunter ( Laura Johnson), who found the body, had recently housed an ancient artifact; a jade goblet, which legend tells was used for drinking a sacrificed victim's blood. The goblet, which may be the only one in existence, or one of a pair, is believed to bring a vampire back to human form something Nick knows a great deal about.
Nick and Alyce are very passionate about history and through conversations and research Alyce has stumbled upon some pretty unbelievable history of her own about Nick.
Nick has been working hard but without any leads on the recent and vicious murders. Back-up will be provided by Schanke ( John Kapelos), the arrogant and cocky day guy who just loves to rub Nick's face in his failures, and now is his partner on the case.
Nick and Schanke have some heavy duty hours to put in to solve this crime. Schanke has some thoughts on what may be a lead in the murders of the homeless, but Nick is too stubborn to give it a second look.
Nick's past is also coming back to haunt him and that is why he is so outraged by the homeless being murdered because he thinks Lacroix ( Michael Nader), the vampire who brought him over to the dark side, is getting back at him for trying to leave the dark world.
Lacroix finally reaches Nick through a most creative outlet...a radio station, and the two meet to talk things over like civilized vampires. But Nick is not alone, Alyce has joined him and now knows the truth.
But the question remains, who is killing the homeless and what is going to happen to Alysa now that she knows the secret?
There's some pretty great comical one liners including one where Nick says "I don't think Betty Ford takes vampires." You gotta love stuff like this!
There is just so much packed into this movie and if you're a lover of vampires, romance, seduction of immortality, and Rick Springfield, you're in for a great ride!
Nick Knight is slick, sleek, and provocative. The cast is excellent and each performer brings something pretty special to their roles making Nick Knight a classy and thrilling movie to watch.
