Afghan Stories
Taran Davies proves once again the levels of his professionalism and deep
understanding for human life, as he presents an intimate and very
real look at the way Afghanistan people have been treated, and the way
they see
their lives placed out in front of them.
Taran Davies shows a revealing look into the lives of people and families who have
struggled to keep safe, find food for their families, and adjusted to constant
change.
Taran Davies along with Walied Osman , an Afghan American entrepreneur,
meet first with a friend of Osman named Ad Sharza who lives in Queens. This
gentleman is a member of the Afghan royal family and for 6 months was
tortured.
Memories of his ordeal are so vivid and painful he wishes Afghanistan to be
bombed,
so life can start all over.
Their next journey leads them to a family in Tajikistan where Shukria was
once a doctor and Ali a journalism professor. Now living in a small apartment
with their four children, their main hope is to move to Canada and live with
Ali's mother. Unfortunately and sadly, they're unable to travel because their
visa
was rejected. A heart wrenching request is asked by Ali, so he could
record a
video message to be sent back to his mother when Taran Davies makes his
journey
home. The request is granted and followed through in the utmost respect.
Next, it's off to Afghanistan to meet Hadji Ahmed Shamsadin, a well known
and respected man who bears the wisdom, hope and blessings for his country to
become a peaceful and beautiful place once again. His son, Zia, is a
solider
and reflects back on his happy childhood ,but now the town
that
he grew up in is gone due to the years of war. He is saddened by the way
children are seeing life as only war, not knowing about the past, just
what is near
them now.
The next journey on the map leads them to Shari Bazurg to meet with Najib
Najibullah who's head of the World Food Program, and one of the many who have
helped build a road. A celebration was planned but canceled due to the
extreme
rainy weather. The road now lay muddy. A sad end to all the hard work.
Afghan Stories is a powerful documentary exploring real people, taking you
to a place one might not have the opportunity to witness. Their emotions
are honest, and their words speak of truth, hope, horror, commitment, and the
opportunity of rebuilding the lives of their families and their civilization.
