John and Yoko's Year of Peace
A celebration of life, a ground-breaking message for peace and humanity was the inspiration for John and Yoko's 1969 "Bed In" for peace in Toronto, as well as future ones that would take them on a massive journey of rallying for world peace.
Throughout the documentary, historical time capsule moments are opened for the viewer to travel back to a time of war, hope, music, and to hear the message of peace from the genius of John Lennon's gentle poetic soul.
John and Yoko's year of peace is layered with the actual black-and-white film footage of events, historical footage, and interviews. Interviews that are tied together with current color interviews of some of the people who were a part of the events that took place then.
Included in this documentary are the pros and cons, the highs and lows, the praise and slander of two beloved and talented people who happened to share an intimate, unorthodox approach to achieving a positive, understandable message of peace.
Unfortunately, fighting for peace has horrific and deadly sadness along with it. The horrible truth of what mankind can succumb to, and that is murder. The murder of a man and the peace we're all searching for came to a startling halt on that dreary day back on December 8, 1980.
Something very pivotal and so beautiful was said when John Lennon expressed an emotional plea during the beginning of the documentary. He didn't care so much what people called him, or how they saw him, he only hoped that what he was saying for the sake of peace was what people heard and envisioned.
"Give peace a chance" is the song that will remain a symbol of infinite hope for a world we call home.
This is a celebration, a salute to the events of a couple's journey to express themselves for a cause they wholeheartedly believed in, as they gave a clear message of their feelings through demonstrations, interviews, and music. Music that was made from the beating heart of a passionate love affair towards life.
We look to the past to help guide us more evenly, freely, and with simplicity and love. We hope to learn from the past in order to be more understanding, fruitful, and humane.
