Craig, Yvonne - Batgirl, 1960's icon

By: Dominick A. Miserandino

Supermodel, Batgirl, Elvis's ex... the 1960's sex symbol

DM) Of all the roles you've done, which would you consider your favorite?

YC) My favorite performance was in The Mod Squad episode "Find Tara Chapman", but because the role of Batgirl seems to have touched the lives of more people over these many years, I have a soft spot in my heart for that role and experience

DM) Do you feel that since Batman, you've been typecast?

YC) Not at all.

DM) Do you still consider yourself a sex symbol?

YC) I never did. I've never even considered myself to be especially feminine by the standards of society.

DM) What are you doing now with your career?

YC) At present, I am writing an autobiography that covers my time with the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo through Batman and Beyond - it's called "From Ballet, to Batcave and Beyond" and is taking far longer than I ever anticipated it would take to write.

DM) Do you feel that you've reached a benchmark stage in acting?

YC) No

DM) Do you still keep contact with your old TV co-stars?

YC) I actually did a convention with Adam & Burt in October of 98 in the Oakland CA area. We do see one another from time to time although we live a distance - last year we all went to the preview showing of the new Batman & Robin film together in Orlando Florida as we were doing a promotion for Target/Nabisco in the area.

DM) What are your hobbies?

YC) I read, hike and exercise...I am very interested in architecture and my husband and I do a fair amount of adventure travel. I've been to Africa nine times over the past few years.

DM) Has the Batman series helped you or type-cast you in your career?

YC) I did many roles after the Batman role, so I don't feel I was type cast in any way. It is amazing to me that after 30 some years, there is still such an interest in this character and I think it is great. I certainly have no regrets over any role I was ever in and this series was certainly a fun one to work on.
