Randal Pinkett Named "The Apprentice"

Randal backstabs fellow candidate Rebecca Jarvis in order to horde the winnings for himself.
Rhodes Scholar Randal Pinkett was named Donald Trump’s fourth apprentice Thursday night, with a twist that perhaps not even the Donald himself could have anticipated. Leading into the show’s two hour finale, Trump had a problem on his hands: both candidates competing for the position were equally qualified and fabulously talented. Rebecca Jarvis was tough, loyal, and articulate, while her competitor Randal Pinkett was educated and performed exceptionally well on tasks.
In a year when “The Apprentice” badly needed ratings, Trump pulled a few surprises out of his bag of tricks – in one episode firing four candidates at once, and near axing front runner Alla for being too pushy. It seemed passable to speculate he could possibly pull the biggest shocker of them all for the finale – hire both candidates that made it into the final two. “I’m stuck with two stars,” he said to George in the boardroom and admitted that even at the start of the show he wasn’t sure who he was going to pick.
Yet at the end of the two hour finale, Trump anointed Pickett with the now famous “You’re hired.” But after about thirty seconds of falling balloons and disjointed celebration, Trump called Randal back to the table, asking if he should also hire Rebecca. Randal, in a somewhat shocking turn, said he felt there should only be one apprentice and talked Trump out of hiring his co-worker.
A messy end to a messy season for Donald Trump and “The Apprentice.” I guess we shouldn’t have expected any goodwill from the infamously cutthroat apprentices during this holiday season, but it sure would’ve been nice.
