Ashton Kutcher Is the First to Reach 1 Million Followers on Twitter

In today's culture, where instant updates and constant communication is the norm, Ashton Kutcher has more people wondering what he's doing now than any other. Kutcher was the first person to reach 1 million followers on the social networking site, Twitter, a service that allows subscribers to keep track of users as they broadcast the details of their daily activities.
Kutcher announced his milestone while "surrounded" by wife Demi Moore, Soleil Moon Frye, and Diddy Combs, who all joined him via phone. The movie star was competing with CNN Breaking News for the rights to the first-ever million-follower landmark, and MSNBC described the excitement when the event happened shortly after 11 p.m. on Thursday.
Kutcher yelled, "Where's the champagne, where's the champagne?" as the breakthrough event approached. The race was tight until the end, with CNN losing by less than 1,200 followers. Kutcher said it felt "like directing an episode of 'Punk'd.'"
Techtree.com reported that Kutcher intends to celebrate philanthropically. The star plans to donate 10,000 mosquito nets and $100,000 to the "Malaria No More" fund.
Unlike many celebrities and politicians who have handlers to maintain their public image, Kutcher has been an active and enthusiastic user of Twitter and enjoys the opportunities it presents to connect with fans.
He announced in his victory speech: "We can and will create our media. We can and will broadcast our media. We can and will censor our own media ourselves. We are over a million."
