Celebrity Surgeon Jailed for DUI
8-Jan-2009
Written by: Edgar Acero
After being stopped by police for driving while intoxicated on a California highway, Dr. Jan Adams was sentenced to a year in prison, according to TMZ.com.
Adams, who performed an operation on Kanye West’s mother, Donda, before she died, pleaded no contest to last year’s misdemeanor. He was said to have a blood alcohol level of .20 percent while driving his Jaguar the wrong way on Interstate 680.
The troubled 54-year-old doctor had been surrounded by controversy after West’s mother died in 2007. Further suspicion came about after another doctor revealed he had denied treatment for Donda West, citing health reasons. Still, officials in charge of the ongoing investigation have turned their attention to Donda West’s nurse, Stephan Scoggins, who was not in sight when she died, according to the New York Daily News.
Ray Wieser, the court commissioner in the DUI case, handed down Adams’s sentence, giving him credit for eight days he spent in jail already.
