Actor Sam Shepard Charged with DUI

Actor and playwright Sam Shepard was arrested in Normal, a small town in central Illinois, for DUI.
Actor Sam Shepard was arrested Saturday in central Illinois for drunk driving.
According to Reuters, “Shepard, 65, told police in Normal, Illinois, he was passing through town and stopped at a tavern before heading to his hotel.”
According to the Bloomington Pantagraph, “His blood-alcohol level was reportedly twice the 0.08 legal limit for driving. Shepard posted $300 and was released from the McLean County jail later Saturday. Officials at the jail said he had no court date scheduled.”
The Bloomington Pantagraph article continued, “Shepard told police he had been at Fat Jack’s, 511 N. Main St., Bloomington, and was driving to the Best Western, 6 Traders Circle, in north Normal to spend the night. Shepard was alone in the sport utility vehicle, except for a poodle,” Normal police Lt. Mark Kotte said.
An article from the Web site of the Associated Press divulges a little more information about Shepard’s intended destination, “Shepard told police he had been at a tavern in nearby Bloomington and was heading to a hotel. He said he was on his way to his home in Kentucky from Minnesota.”
Shepard won the 1979 Pulitzer Prize for drama for his play Buried Child. He has also starred in such movies as 2004’s The Notebook, 2001’s Swordfish, 1993’s The Pelican Brief and 1987’s Baby Boom.
Shepard has two children with his long-time partner, actress Jessica Lange.
