Recycle Your Analog TV!
3-Jan-2009

Goodbye rabbit ears.
By now you should know that on Feb. 17, television in the U.S. is going digital. Whether you have purchased a digital converter box or a new TV altogether, there is still your old set of rabbit ears to get rid of. It may be obvious, but the best option is to be environmentally friendly and recycle it.
According to MSNBC, recycling facilities have been thriving more recently with the digital conversion quickly approaching. Many Iowans are sending their old TVs to CP Recovery in Johnston. Although throwing away your TV set is not illegal in Iowa, it is not recommended because of the lead amount.
Yet according to Wndu.com, eight million households are still unprepared. Most converter boxes range from $40 to $80, with the federal government letting consumers request up to two $40 coupons per household. However, this subsidization program is about to run out of funds, and is expected to soon hit the $1.34 billion ceiling set by Congress.
Of course, consumers can purchase converter boxes without the coupons.
