Cameron Diaz Won’t Do “Shrek the Musical”
15-Dec-2008
Written by: Jill Marino

Actress praises Broadway show on opening night.

Cameron Diaz had nothing but kind words to say about the company of Shrek the Musical, the new Broadway production based on the hit animated films that opened last night. Don’t expect her to join them on stage in the future, though.

“No. Absolutely not. What they do up there . . . is, to me, impossible,” she told the Associated Press. “It's wonderful, though. They’ve done such a great job. They worked really hard, and it really pays off.”

Diaz voiced the role of Princess Fiona for the three “Shrek” films. Tony winner Sutton Foster plays Fiona in the musical.

“It’s hilarious,” Diaz said, “There’s so many laughs. . . . It’s great to see all the actors playing it together, because when we do it for animated [films], we never see each other. We don’t work together.”

The fourth “Shrek” film will be released in 2010, with Diaz as Fiona. Also returning will be Mike Myers as Shrek and Eddie Murphy as Donkey.

Diaz wasn’t the only famous face at the musical’s opening night. Also attending were Joan Rivers, Rosie Perez, America Ferrera, Ben Stiller and wife Christine Taylor, Hoda Kotb, and Kathie Lee Gifford.
