The “Indiana Jones” actor will play a law student in the author’s latest work.
Shia LaBeouf will star in an adaptation of John Grisham’s yet-to-be-released legal thriller, The Associate, Variety reports.
The Associate centers on Kyle McAvoy (LaBeouf), a student set to graduate from Yale Law School who is manipulated into taking a job at a highly esteemed law firm. He then receives privileged information about a multibillion-dollar lawsuit.
Lorenzo di Bonaventura, whose credits include the Stephen King thriller, 1408, and the LaBeouf blockbuster, Transformers, will produce. He reportedly received the script while filming Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen with LaBeouf in the Middle East. The pair agreed to work on the project together.
Grisham’s representative, David Gernert, approached four different studios about purchasing filming rights before settling on Paramount, which is also backing the Transformers sequel.
The Associate is Grisham’s 22nd book and will be released on January 27, 2009. It is the best-selling author’s first legal thriller since 2005’s The Broker.
